GE (General English)
What is GE?
GE stands for General English and broadly speaking denotes the kind and mode of English used when the speakers are in everyday and common situations. In a sense, it is directly opposite ESP (English for Specific Purposes) modes of English such as English used in commerce or Business English.
In general English Courses provided by Five Continents Innovators, a wide range of everyday life subject matters are presented to the learners.
The courses are presented through three Education Systems. These systems include:
- Edsys
- POC (Piece of Cake)
- TalkSi
All the above-mentioned educational systems are presented according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment) proficiency spectrum. It covers a range of A1 (Starter) to C2 (Proficient user).
The levels presented in CEFR include the following 6 levels:
A1 – Beginner – IELTS Score range –
A2 – Pre-Intermediate – IELTS Score range –
B1 – Intermediate – IELTS Score range 4-5
B2 – Upper-Intermediate – IELTS Score range 5.5 – 6.5
C1 – Advanced – IELTS Score range 7-8
C2 – Proficiency – IELTS Score range 8.5-9
The major language skills of Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing are highly focused on in the GE courses provided. Another item worth mentioning is the emphasis put on communicative skills used in English. We take pride in turning the cognitive skills into productive ones.
